To be honest, we just missed to enter the Vista House as we arrived just a minute before they close and we wasn’t lucky enough to get in. But the scenery around it enough for us to get unwind as the Crown Point aka Thor’s Crown provides the view of mountains and the magnificent Columbia River.
Vista House used to be a comfort station for travelers on the historic Columbia River Highway but now it’s a museum of regional artworks and selling local gift items. Volunteers inside will provide a special informative tour to visitors which talks about the architecture of Vista House, Historic Columbia River Highway, local history and many other wonderful attractions along the Highway and throughout the Gorge. Though I wasn’t able to listen to the full tour exhibit, I just interviewed some who entered the Vista House.
The Vista House opens throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons 9 AM to 6PM. Bikers are very much welcome to the place as the Vista House has recently been approved as Bike Friendly. There’s also an Espresso Bar available that you don’t want to miss out.
Trivia: Did you know? The roof of Vista House was originally surfaced with matte-glazed green tiles. The roof was covered with a copper crown for more than 50 years. A new glazed green tile roof was installed over a protective dome membrane during the 2002 exterior restoration.
